Do the 2-liter bottles give off light or just channel sunlight into the room?

Okay, it appears they just channel the light into the room. Which is very useful in areas without electricity or for inexpensively lighting dark rooms or buildings.
I wondered what the bleach was needed for but then realized it prevented algae from growing in the bottles and reducing the light.

Y’know where it would really come in handy, even for electricity-rich Americans? Tool/storage sheds. You seldom get into them at night, and the damned things are always dark as hell, even at noon. Worse, if you bother to install an electric light, you forget to turn it off half the time.
A couple “bottle lights” would address all of that quite neatly.
